How UK free bet offers work
- Open an account and verify your age and identity — required before you can deposit.
- Enter a promo code if the offer asks for one (usually at registration).
- Deposit with a payment method that qualifies for the offer.
- Place the qualifying bet at or above the minimum odds stated in the terms.
- Receive the free bets once the qualifying bet settles (sometimes as soon as it is placed).
- Use them before they expire, on the markets the terms allow.

Worked example: what a free bet returns
This is an illustration of the maths, not a real offer. Suppose you receive a £10 free bet with the stake not returned and place it at odds of 3/1 (4.0 in decimal):
- If it wins, you receive £30 — the £40 return minus the £10 free bet stake.
- If it loses, you lose nothing further; the free bet was not your money.
Because the stake is not returned, a free bet is worth less than the same amount in cash. Higher odds keep more of its value, but also make winning less likely.
Other common promotions
- Best Odds Guaranteed (racing) — if the starting price is bigger than the price you took, you are paid at the bigger price.
- Acca insurance — a refund (usually as a free bet) if one leg of an eligible accumulator lets you down.
- Price boosts — enhanced odds on selected outcomes, usually with a maximum stake.
- Free-to-play games — prediction games with prizes and no stake required.

Frequently asked questions
What is a free bet?
A free bet is a bet token the bookmaker gives you, usually after you place a qualifying bet with your own money. If it wins, you normally receive the winnings but not the free bet stake itself.
Do I need a promo code to get a free bet?
Some UK offers need a code entered at registration and many do not. The offer terms state whether a code is required. Where we have a dedicated code it is shown on the operator’s offer page.
Can I claim free bets from several bookmakers?
Yes — each licensed operator sets its own new-customer offer, usually limited to one per person, household and payment method. Only sign up where you actually intend to bet, and set a deposit limit first.
Why was my free bet not credited?
The most common reasons are a qualifying bet below the minimum odds, a deposit with an excluded payment method, a code not entered at registration, or a qualifying bet that was cashed out. Check the significant terms, then contact the operator’s support.
Are free bets with no deposit available?
Occasionally, but most UK sign-up offers require a deposit and a qualifying bet. Free-to-play prediction games are a common alternative that require no stake.
